Hello to the Advisor Exchange,
As the January 2024 semester approaches, students attending UM worldwide seek accommodations as they begin their studies. In helping these students find accommodations, we are reaching out today to encourage you to send students to St John's College Residence.
St John's College Residence
The College Residence is a small community of 100 students where we host students from various faculties, including Science, Arts, Business, Nursing, First Year Students, ICM, and other areas. Our Residence is all single rooms and includes a complete meal plan, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekdays and brunch and dinner on weekends. The community includes students of all ages and locations, including those from Manitoba, other provinces, and other countries. Residence dons are on call every night, ready to respond to emergencies and counsel students through homesickness, conflicts with friends, illness, etc., and the St John's College Residence Council provides leadership opportunities and organizes education and social events.
More information about Residence applications and rates can be found here<https://umanitoba.ca/st-johns-college/residence>.
St John's College Membership and Experience
In addition to our Residence, St John's College offers student memberships to those looking for a small community on the UM campus to study, meet friends, and receive financial support. Through our student membership, the College offers benefits such as $180,000 worth of scholarships and bursaries each year, discounts on our food and beverage services, monthly events held by our student council, and access to study carrels.
Students can become members of the College here<https://umanitoba.ca/st-johns-college/student-experience#membership>. Scholarship and bursary information can be found here<https://umanitoba.ca/st-johns-college/student-experience/scholarships-bursa…'>.

Sent on behalf of Jane Lastra, Associate Registrar and Director, Financial Aid & Awards
Good morning colleagues - I hope this email finds you all well.
I wanted to share with you that the deregistration process from Winter 2024 courses due to outstanding fall term tuition fees will begin today.
Students owing fees for fall, have been reached numerous times via their UM email accounts from the Cashiers Office, to advise them of their lateness and next steps. The deregistration process should not be a surprise to students at this point. However, I am sure you will have students reach you, so we thought it was important that you were aware.
Students should arrange to pay for their fall fees immediately. Once paid and reflected in Aurora, the student should contact the Cashier's Office to request the hold on their account be removed. They will be eligible to register for winter term courses (with available space) the following day.
For those students with government student aid or award concerns, please direct them to the Financial Aid and Awards Office<https://umanitoba.ca/financial-aid-and-awards>.
My best,
....Jane

Hello to all Advisory Exchange Members,
I wanted to provide some information about the upcoming exam session. Please feel free to distribute this information to your faculty/school/college and instructors as needed.
Student Accessibility Services
We have a test/exam booking deadline of November 22, 2023 for any exams occurring December 1-22. We have sent this information via email to all students registered with our office. Please note that students have received multiple reminders of the deadline as we approach November 22. Due to the complexities of scheduling and room/invigilation logistics, students who do not book prior to the deadline may not be accommodated.
December exam locations
We will be using space in five buildings across Fort Garry campus and two buildings at Bannatyne campus to accommodate the number of in-person exams. Students will be notified by email of their exam location no later than the day before their test or exam.
Online uploading of exam details
The online scheduler is available 24/7 for students and faculty to use.
Student instructions for the online scheduler: https://umanitoba.ca/sites/default/files/2021-09/scheduling-an-exam-on-the-…
Online scheduler: https://sasclockwork.cc.umanitoba.ca/ClockWork/custom/misc/home.aspx
Using the online scheduler, Instructors can enter test details, provide their contact information, and upload a secure copy of their test to the database.
Please note that, due to the 30% increase in test bookings, our in-person service will be slower than usual during the exam period. Please try to avoid in-person visits to the Exam Centre at 9am, 1:30pm, and 6pm on final exam days. We will be starting individual exams for hundreds of students at these times and will not have staff immediately available to assist you.
January
We will be able to accommodate bookings for exam deferrals with one week's notice in the month of January.
The regular two-week booking procedure will apply for the remainder of Winter Term.
The booking deadline for exams occurring in the month of April will be March 15, 2024.
New students
We are ready to welcome new student referrals. However, due to the multiple steps and personnel involved, academic accommodations can take several weeks to implement. Students who have appointments in late November and December will have accommodations in place for the start of the Winter Term.
Thank you and best wishes for the rest of the term.
Thank you,
Shanda Vitt
