Hi everyone,
I know things are shutting down for the holiday break but I wanted to send you all a reminder that the St John’s College Residence has rooms available for the winter term so if you are aware of any students looking for housing on campus, please let them know we have spaces available. Below is a letter from Matthew Bowman, our Dean of Residence, with more details and contact information.

Hello to the Advisor Exchange,
As the January 2024 semester approaches, students attending UM worldwide seek accommodations as they begin their studies. In helping these students find accommodations, we are reaching out today to encourage you to send students to St John’s College Residence.
St John’s College Residence
The College Residence is a small community of 100 students where we host students from various faculties, including Science, Arts, Business, Nursing, First Year Students, ICM, and other areas. Our Residence is all single rooms and includes a complete meal plan, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekdays and brunch and dinner on weekends. The community includes students of all ages and locations, including those from Manitoba, other provinces, and other countries. Residence dons are on call every night, ready to respond to emergencies and counsel students through homesickness, conflicts with friends, illness, etc., and the St John’s College Residence Council provides leadership opportunities and organizes education and social events.
More information about Residence applications and rates can be found here<https://umanitoba.ca/st-johns-college/residence>.
St John’s College Membership and Experience
In addition to our Residence, St John’s College offers student memberships to those looking for a small community on the UM campus to study, meet friends, and receive financial support. Through our student membership, the College offers benefits such as $180,000 worth of scholarships and bursaries each year, discounts on our food and beverage services, monthly events held by our student council, and access to study carrels.
Students can become members of the College here<https://umanitoba.ca/st-johns-college/student-experience#membership>. Scholarship and bursary information can be found here<https://umanitoba.ca/st-johns-college/student-experience/scholarships-bursa…'>.

Hello,
My term will be up as the Manitoba Liaison for NACADA Region 6<https://nacada.ksu.edu/Community/Regions/Region-6.aspx> at the end of March 2024, and we are looking for someone else to take over for the 2024-2026 term! I have served 2 consecutive 2-year terms, and it's been a wonderful learning experience with a lot of professional development with some very motivated advisors across the region.
The time needed to be a part of the steering committee is very manageable, with there being a 1-hour virtual meeting once a month and some planning/goal-setting documents to review and contribute feedback to. Region 6 is a great team, and I'd highly recommend that anyone who is interested in getting some more experience with committee work and some professional development consider this opportunity.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and/or if you're interested in putting your name forward and I will get you in touch with our region chair for the next steps.
Take care,
Kristin

Hi everyone,
The Aurora Modernization Project team spent two weeks in November talking to students and gathering input to help shape the New Aurora system.
At various locations, Pop-Up booths provided students with a video preview of the New Aurora hub and an opportunity to share feedback through a short survey.
We received a lot of positive feedback from students based on what they saw in the video and heard ideas about which functions would be most helpful. Ultimately, we heard a lot of excitement about a new interface that is mobile-friendly.
We would like to share the same short demo video with the Advising community, so encourage you to watch it on the Aurora Modernization Project SharePoint<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-aurora-modernization-pro…> site.
The go-live plan will be a phased approach to rolling out new functionality for students in 2024, likely starting in March. This means that there will be incremental changes throughout the coming year.
More details will be provided as the plan is developed and we will be working on opportunities to provide more details about what things will look like and how they will work.
Stay tuned,

Hi everyone,
Hope you are doing well. I wanted to give you a heads up about a change in the work hours of Virtual Advising Help Centre.
From the beginning of the winter term(January 2024), we will be only available during the regular UM work hours i.e. Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. This means VAHC will be closed during the evenings and weekends.
We're changing our work hours because we have noticed significant drop in our evening and weekend traffic. Note that VAHC email umhelp(a)umanitoba.ca will remain available.
Please ensure that this update is reflected on your website and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks a lot for your attention.
Best,
