Course Adds and Drops (Revision Period)
The registration revision period is considered the 'add and drop' period, where you can make changes to your course or timetable without academic or financial penalty. Courses dropped during this period are not recorded on official transcripts or student records, and tuition charges will be reversed for dropped courses.
During the registration revision period, you can:
* Add a new class if you changed your mind about your course subjects, or if a course that was previously full is now available.
* Register in a course for which you were waitlisted if you receive notification that space is available.
* Update your residency status in your Aurora account and receive a fee adjustment. *
Once the registration revision period ends, you can still Voluntarily Withdraw from a class; however, it will be recorded on your transcript, and you will not receive a tuition refund.

* If you have recently become a Permanent Resident, or Canadian Citizen, then you can update your residency status and pay domestic tuition fees. Status updates received after the revision period will be accepted, but your fees will not be adjusted until the start of the next term.

Hello UM community,
Late last week, we learned that Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) was planning a protest encampment at the Fort Garry campus on May 7-9. Student Affairs and Security Services both immediately reached out to SJP to discuss the expectation that the event remain peaceful. Since the start of the protest on Tuesday morning, Security Services has been on site to monitor the situation and ensure a safe environment.
Although SJP publicly communicated their intention to remove the encampment as planned, tents remained last night, and a protest continues today. There are now also plans for outside groups to protest at the Fort Garry campus on Saturday, which has resulted in the very unfortunate cancellation of Science Rendezvous.
Please visit UM Today<https://news.umanitoba.ca/encampment-protest-updates/> for more information and updates as they become available.
We understand that events can impact members of our community in different ways and encourage anyone who needs to talk or seek support to reach out to our counseling services, which are available to all students<https://umanitoba.ca/student-supports/student-health-and-wellness> and employees<https://umanitoba.ca/wellness-and-mental-health>.

Hello UM community,
The University of Manitoba is committed to being safe and welcoming for all. We support the right of our university community to freedom of expression and to assemble and protest in accordance with university policies and the law.
As you may know, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) has planned a protest at the Fort Garry campus, tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. from May 7-9. SJP has communicated that this is a student-led event and only students are invited to attend.
UM Security Services is monitoring the situation and continues to be in contact with organizers. As with all events on our campuses, the expectation is that this will remain a safe and respectful environment.
Regular university activities will continue as planned, including in-person work. We remind everyone to be kind, respectful and compassionate to one another.
If you did not see it last week, you can find this message to the UM community<https://news.umanitoba.ca/um-is-space-to-explore-complex-issues-of-local-an…> on relevant policies and our commitment to freedom of expression.

New Task Force will update UM’s Mental Health and Well-being Strategy
Dear students,
The University of Manitoba is committed to providing a caring, supportive, responsive and safe environment for all members of our campus community. To advance this commitment, we will develop a new institutional mental health and well-being strategy.
A Task Force on Mental Health and Well-being has been formed, led by co-chairs Tracey Peter, Vice-Provost (Academic Affairs), Laurie Schnarr, Vice-Provost (Students), and René Ouellette, Associate Vice-President (Human Resources). The task force will investigate the current mental health supports available across each of our campuses, consider promising practices, review data collected from recent surveys and engage in consultations with our campus community to ultimately formulate recommendations for consideration.
The task force intends to hold its first meeting in April, and in the coming months will announce the formation of several working groups. Please watch for future communications regarding opportunities to serve on a working group and also how to contribute through the consultation process.
The task force aims to present initial findings in the fall of this year, and a final report and recommendations by Summer 2025. You can find the Terms of Reference for the Mental Health and Well-being Task Force and its membership on the Wellness and Mental Health webpage.<https://umanitoba.ca/wellness-and-mental-health>
Our recently launched strategic plan, MomentUM: Leading the Change Together,<https://umanitoba.ca/strategic-plan> identifies well-being as a core value and emphasizes the importance of safety, respect and social connection as essential to mental health and well-being for the UM community and its individual members.
There are many resources in place to support the mental health and wellness of our students, staff and faculty members. We encourage you to visit our Wellness and Mental Health<https://umanitoba.ca/wellness-and-mental-health> webpage to take advantage of the resources currently available. We recognize, however, that there is still more work to be done to build on UM’s previous mental health strategy, and create a robust and comprehensive strategy that reflects present-day opportunities and challenges.
Thank you to those who are already engaged in this important work, and to everyone in our community who contributes to a campus environment of care, mutual respect and inclusivity.

Student Affairs: Leaders in cultivating exceptional student experiences
I acknowledge, with humility and gratitude, that the University of Manitoba campuses are located on original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Ojibwe-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. As a white settler of English and German descent I am committed to walking alongside Indigenous students, colleagues, friends, and neighbours and doing the work that is necessary to honour the truth and contribute to lasting positive change.

Good morning,
On April 4th, at a community celebration led by an Indigenous Witness Ceremony, we launched a new, ambitious path forward for the University of Manitoba.
Our latest strategic plan, “MOMENTUM: Leading Change Together,” is a plan informed by our community and we were inspired to see so many of you join us to start this new chapter together. An event recording is now available online for those who could not attend<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/:v:/s/MediaProductionFileDelivery/EesdZpM8…>.
Please explore the new website<https://umanitoba.ca/strategic-plan?utm_source=all+staff&utm_medium=email&u…> to learn where our momentum is taking us and the goals we will achieve together:
*
to create knowledge that matters;
*
to empower learners; and,
*
to reimagine engagement.
MOMENTUM is our commitment to be the bold and innovative university Manitoba needs. It sets our goals and priorities for the next five years. It keeps us focused on our vision to be a vibrant and thriving community enriched by Indigenous knowledges and perspectives, a place where we advance learning by creating, sharing, preserving, and applying knowledge in partnership with diverse communities.
For nearly 150 years, the University of Manitoba has been a leader in new ideas—identifying creative solutions and advancing deeper understandings of the world around us. From a deep commitment to advancing Reconciliation and addressing social injustices, to creating revolutionary technologies, such as cultivating Canada’s most successful modern crop or developing life-saving vaccines, the University of Manitoba changes the world.
UM is a unique and extraordinary community that does great things. Together, we can do even more. Let’s continue to be creative, be curious, be bold, be engaged, and think big.
We appreciate the engagement, support, and energy you have invested in sharing your ideas and aspirations. We look forward to working with you to achieve our goals over the next five years.
To keep the conversation going, the School of Art has helped us develop a community mural to visually represent the strategic plan. But it’s not finished yet. We need your ideas, your vision for the future, to complete it. Visit the mural web form<https://umanitoba.ca/form/2024-2025-strategic-plan-mural-f?utm_source=all+s…> to share your word that completes the sentence “My UM will be...” Submissions for the mural will be accepted until April 12, 2024.
Miigwech. Maarsi. Nakurmiik. Thank you. Merci.

Memo from Mario Lebar, Chief Information Officer
March 27, 2024
Subject: Important Reminder: Cybersecurity Best Practices
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
In light of recent cybersecurity incidents affecting educational institutions, we are reminded of the critical importance of maintaining vigilant cybersecurity practices. Protecting our digital campus is a shared responsibility, and we must all contribute to safeguarding our information and systems.
Here are key habits to enhance our cybersecurity posture:
1. Use strong passwords: Create complex passwords on all your accounts, and consider using a password manager to store your passwords securely.
2. Enable Multi-factor authentication (MFA): The university requires everyone to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) to sign in to university services and applications. Be cautious about unexpected prompts, and never share your one-time MFA code with others. Whenever possible, enable MFA on your personal accounts to add an extra layer of security.
3. Be cautious with email: Look for the UM external warning tag. It is a sure indicator that if the message sounds suspicious, it probably is. Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown or suspicious sources, and always verify urgent requests. Phishing attempts are a common entry point for cyber threats.
4. Keep software updated: Regularly update your operating system, applications, and anti-virus software to protect against the latest vulnerabilities.
5. Secure your devices: Use strong passwords, encryption, and screen locks to protect your personal devices.
Your awareness and actions can make a significant difference in our collective cybersecurity efforts. If you encounter any suspicious activity or have concerns about your digital security, please contact the IST Service Desk<https://umanitoba.ca/information-services-technology/#contact-us> immediately.

Dear Student,
***THIS IS A REMINDER THAT YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BELOW STUDY****
You are invited to participate in a national research study to evaluate post-secondary student stress. The Post-Secondary Student Stressors Index (PSSI) was designed to help post-secondary institutions across Canada improve the tailoring of their campus mental health supports in line with the sources of student stress. This year, the PSSI survey is taking place at over 20 universities and colleges across the country!
We are looking for student volunteers to complete an online survey at two timepoints over the course of the 2023-2024 academic year: one survey this month (September) and one in March 2024. The survey should take you about 20 mins to complete.
If you are interested in participating, please read the attached Letter of Information thoroughly prior to completing the survey. The first survey can be accessed at the following link:
https://queensu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eR8qlH9KLjoWp7M
Your participation in this research is greatly appreciated, and will contribute to improving mental health supports on post-secondary campuses across Canada.
