SHHRC recently launched its fourth annual Storytellers contest<http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/storytellers>, challenging postsecondary students to show Canadians how social sciences and humanities research affects our lives, our world and our future prosperity. The contest is open to all students, graduate and undergraduate, enrolled at Canadian postsecondary institutions. Their task is to tell the story, in 3 minutes or 300 words, of a SSHRC-funded research project—their own or a professor’s—taking place at their institution. We will select 25 finalists to receive a $3000 cash prize and specialized training in research communications. We encourage you to spread the word to students. From: Hotte,Manon [mailto:Manon.Hotte@nserc-crsng.gc.ca] On Behalf Of Z-HARMONIZATION Sent: Monday, November 16, 2015 1:12 PM Subject: Important Notice - CGS M Guidelines Regarding Transcripts / Message important - Lignes directrices relatives aux relevés de notes - BESC M (La version française suit) Good day, Subject: Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's (CGS M) - Updating the Guidelines for Transcripts This is to inform you that an updated version of the CGS Master's - Guidelines for Transcripts grid and is ready for use. The document CGS Master's - Guidelines for Transcripts outlines multiple scenarios related to transcripts and for each provides guidance on whether the transcript portion of the application is considered officially complete. This determination is made by evaluating whether the First Class Average (FCA) can be calculated from the official transcript-related documentation submitted by the applicant. Unofficial documentation cannot be taken in account in the calculation of the FCA, nor during the merit review process. In general, if the FCA can be calculated from the official submitted documents, then the transcript portion of the application is considered complete. Likewise, if the FCA cannot be calculated from official documents then in general, the transcript portion of the application is considered incomplete. Only applications that are considered to be officially incomplete should be declared ineligible and subsequently rejected from the competition. In all scenarios where a portion of the transcript must be disregarded (for example; a non-certified translation of a transcript, a transcript that is not up-to-date, an unofficial transcript, etc.) then the question should be asked: can FCA be calculated despite the missing information? If yes, then the application should stay in the competition. Such an application may be at a disadvantage during the evaluation, but it should not be rejected as ineligible by an administrator. Change: We have modified the wording of the Course(s) credited to a degree program section of the document. If the FCA cannot be calculated due to the absence of transfer credit grade(s), then the transcript portion of the application is considered incomplete. If the FCA can be calculated despite the absence of transfer credit grade(s), then the transcript portion of the application is considered complete. To calculate the FCA, the necessary grade(s) must either be shown on the transcript, or an official transcript from the original institution must be included with the application. If the transfer credit does not have a grade, for example if it is a Pass/Fail transfer credit, then this should not eliminate the application because it does not prevent the FCA calculation. Thank you for your continued collaboration, The programs divisions of CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC ***************************************************************************************************** Objet : Bourses d'études supérieures du Canada au niveau de la maîtrise (BESC M) - Mise à jour des Lignes directrices relatives aux relevés de notes La présente vise à vous informer qu'une version actualisée de la grille du document intitulé BESC M - Lignes directrices relatives aux relevés de notes est prête à être utilisée. Ce document présente plusieurs scénarios relatifs aux relevés de notes et donne pour chacun des orientations permettant de déterminer si la section de la demande sur les relevés de notes est jugée officiellement complète. Pour ce faire, on doit déterminer s'il est possible de calculer la moyenne de première classe (MPC) à partir des relevés de notes officiels présentés par le candidat. Les documents non officiels ne peuvent être pris en compte dans le calcul de la MPC, ni au cours de l'examen du mérite. En général, s'il est possible de calculer la MPC à partir des documents officiels fournis, la section de la demande sur les relevés de notes est jugée complète. De même, s'il est impossible de calculer la MPC à partir des documents officiels, cette section de la demande sera généralement jugée incomplète. Seules les demandes jugées officiellement incomplètes devraient être déclarées inadmissibles et exclues du concours. Dans tous les scénarios où une partie du relevé de notes ne peut être prise en compte (par exemple traduction non certifiée d'un relevé de notes, relevé de notes qui n'est pas à jour ou relevé de notes non officiel), il faut alors se poser la question suivante : Peut-on calculer la MPC malgré l'information manquante? Le cas échéant, la demande devrait demeurer en lice. Celle-ci pourrait se trouver désavantagée pendant l'évaluation, mais un administrateur ne devrait pas la rejeter sur la base qu'elle est inadmissible. Modification : Nous avons modifié la formulation de la section du document intitulée Cours à crédit dans un programme d'études menant à un diplôme. S'il est impossible de calculer la MPC en raison de l'absence de notes associées aux crédits de transfert, alors la section de la demande sur les relevés de notes sera jugée incomplète. S'il est possible de calculer la MPC malgré l'absence de ces notes, alors cette section sera jugée complète. Pour que l'on puisse calculer la MPC, les notes nécessaires doivent figurer sur le relevé ou encore un relevé de notes officiel de l'établissement d'origine doit être joint à la demande. Si aucune note n'est associée au crédit, par exemple s'il s'agit d'un crédit « réussi ou échoué », la demande ne devrait pas être éliminée, car cette situation n'empêche pas de calculer la MPC.
