Hello everyone,

BAW 2016 has come to a close, and I would like to thank everyone who came out to support our events.  I would also like to extend special thanks to all those who worked so hard to make these events a success.

Our speakers for the Café Scientifique on multiple sclerosis:  Dr. Ruth Ann Marrie, Dr. James Marriott, and Dr. Chase Figley, who did a marvelous job communicating their latest research on MS.  Over 80 people attended the Café at McNally Robinson, and the audience was very engaged, asking many excellent questions.

Our volunteers for the 2nd Annual Winnipeg Brain Bee:  Dr. Barb Shay, Teresa Figley, Dr. Katinka Stecina, Dr. Soheila Karimi, Dr. Tabrez Siddiqui, Dr. Sabine Hombach-Klonisch, Dr. Sarah Chen, Crystal Acosta, and Scott Dyck, who organized the questions, served as judges and guides, and led demonstrations for the participants.  This year we welcomed 18 students from Winnipeg and Brandon, and thanks to the efforts of these individuals, the day was a great success.  We also hosted a reporter from Shaw TV, and his piece on the Brain Bee can be seen here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6frRgTJ2dFs

All those who met with CERC Dr. Oliver Ernst, particularly Samantha Lee, who escorted Dr. Ernst around the Fort Garry campus, and Drs. Mike Jackson, Jörg Stetefeld, and Prashen Chelikani who provided much appreciated transportation.  Dr. Ernst enjoyed his visit tremendously, and I think he was left with a very positive impression of the University and our research.

All of these events were expertly documented by our Social Media Director, Crystal Acosta, who has been very busy posting to our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.  If you haven’t checked them out yet, I highly recommend that you do so! (you do not need to log in to see our posts)

Finally, none of these events would be possible without the help of our superb admin assistants, Kae Normandeau and Kelly Jorundson.  You work wonders ladies!  Thank you!

I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Meeting in June, and discussing the possibilities for new neuroscience outreach events.  Thank you for your continued support of the MNN.

Best wishes, Sari
