Dear colleagues,

The 9th annual Winnipeg Brain Bee will be held on Saturday, March 11th at the University of Manitoba's Bannatyne campus.  It has been three years since we were able to hold the Brain Bee in person, and so, I am very excited to welcome the students and their teachers back for this event.

In preparation for the Brain Bee, I would like to invite faculty members to serve as judges for the competition, and to organize lab tours and demonstrations for the students.  Judges are responsible for leading the preliminary round of the competition, and this will involve a two-hour time commitment in the morning.  Lab tours and demonstrations are held in the afternoon and are typically 30-45 minutes in length.  Past Brain Bees have featured microscopy and neurophysiology demonstrations, and we welcome any new ideas that you may have.  The total time commitment for the demonstrations will also be approximately two hours.

I am also looking for graduate student volunteers who will serve as scorekeepers and photographers for the competition, and escort the participants around the campus.  Graduate students can also organize and/or participate in the lab demonstrations (with their supervisor's permission of course).  Students who volunteer will receive recognition on their co-curricular record.

Anyone who wishes to volunteer can contact me directly, and I will be happy to answer any questions.  Thank you for your ongoing support of the MNN's outreach program.

Best wishes, Sari
