Dear Colleague,

The New York Times reported on Friday evening that the Trump administration is preparing a proposal to eliminate funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities. I want to assure you that the MLA is working closely with the National Humanities Alliance to fight this proposal.

Here’s what you can do: If you haven’t already, I urge you to take action. Make it clear to the president and Congress that you value federal funding for the humanities by sending a message today. The automated system also allows you to call the offices of your representative and senators directly.

While we are all concerned, it is important to remember that over the past years humanities advocates have received considerable backing from members of Congress, who will ultimately have a key role to play in any funding decisions.

Together, we will communicate that public support for the humanities benefits students, teachers, scholars, and communities across the country.

Thank you for your help!

Yours,

Rosemary G. Feal
