The collective agreement in place between the University of Manitoba and the 533 CAW (Canadian Auto Workers( Local 3007 workers (representing caretakers, food service workers, groundskeepers, skilled trades and powerhouse workers) has expired. Despite regular bargaining sessions between the union and the university, an agreement has not yet been reached.

The University of Manitoba continues to negotiate with the union and remains hopeful an agreement will still be achieved.  The union has set a meeting for its membership for the evening of Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at which time it’s possible they may decide to take strike action immediately.

Strike action could occur therefore as early as Wednesday, February 16. There may be traffic delays getting to the University due to picketing activity.

The University will continue to operate as normal to the extent possible.

Classes will continue as scheduled. The libraries will remain open.
