Message from Laurie Schnarr, Vice-Provost (Students)

Dear Students,

As we approach the end of Winter Term and prepare for exams, I’m checking in with you one last time to see how you’re doing and to remind you of the academic resources and supports that are available to you. I also want to echo President Benarroch’s message to you earlier this week and acknowledge the tenacity and adaptability that brought you to this point in your studies. As he said, “you are living through an historic period, one that has changed our global society in ways we don’t fully know yet”. May this motivate you to achieve your highest potential and, ultimately, to apply all that you are learning beyond our campus borders – in our communities, businesses, labs, clinics, and concert halls. Indeed, each of you has the potential to contribute to lasting, positive change.

To ensure that you are prioritizing your own self-care during this time, we have compiled a series of articles on exam-related topics and supports for you:

If you need motivation or are tired of preparing for exams on your own, join a virtual study hall for final exam prep.

As always, there are also a range of student supports available to you at the University of Manitoba, and I encourage you to reach out if needed. We are here for you.

Student Affairs: Creating opportunities for student success!

I acknowledge, with humility and gratitude, that the University of Manitoba campuses are located on original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation. As a white settler of English and German descent I am committed to walking alongside my Indigenous colleagues, friends and neighbours and doing the work that is necessary to honour the truth, right the wrongs, and contribute to lasting positive change.
