Winnipeg's approved rapid transit plan has three main components:
1) dedicated rapid transitways from downtown to the University of Manitoba, with permanent stations
2) commuter cycling paths beside the transitways
3) transit oriented development around the rapid transit stations
Transit oriented development is an important feature of the plan as it increased density around the stations, increases ridership and enhances existing neighbourhoods in Winnipeg.
