Hi,

[Feel free to share this widely.]

CounterPoint 1.0, the first iOS release of Green Action Centre's award-winning active transportation planning tool is now in the App Store. We would love to have your help testing it out in the real world. We are looking for approximately 5-15 volunteers willing to spend 2 hours counting traffic on a Sunday. Its for a good cause (and way more practical than Angry Birds!)

We hope to be counting on the following days:
  • Sunday August 31st
  • Sunday September 7th
  • Sunday September 14th
At these locations:
  • Norwood bridge
  • Broadway downtown
  • Westminster/Mostyn
  • Sherbrook/Maryland bridges
  • The Main Street Entrance to the Forks
  • Assiniboine Cycle Track
To volunteer, first please fill out this availability poll with your first name, date(s) and the preferred location (in parenthesis). Then, please send me a separate email with your name and phone number so I can give you a call at some point.

How Does the App Work?
Kind of like a clipboard, with a brain and some blinky-lights. Seriously, using the app itself should be fairly self-explanatory, the counterpoints will all be set up and I will be giving volunteers a quick call beforehand to go over any questions. For now if anyone is keen, just go into the app store on your phone, and search for "counterpoint". Create an account, and either set one up or find an existing counterpoint near you. Give it a try. Its free, of course.

Why do this count?
The goal of this coordinated count is threefold:
1. To help better understand the user impact of the Ciclovia event.
2. To help assess the need for and current usage of AT infrastructure on routes nearby.
3. Get feedback/ideas for a planned new "campaign" feature of the app in a future software update.

Afterwards, for those who are willing, everyone is invited for a nice informal beer/coffee (my treat) where I'd love to get feedback in person if you happen to have any. (No feedback is fine too, that means there are less bugs, and then we can just proceed to drinking beer/coffee..) Hopefully you will find that using CounterPoint is relaxing, challenging and actually kind of fun. To learn more about CounterPoint, visit counterpointapp.org

Thanks a lot!

Sincerely
Anders

--> P.S. In case you are wondering "Hey, I don't have an iPhone, but want to help! What gives? Do you work for Apple or something?!?!!". Let me know that you are interested anyway. We have an Android version coming soon and there is a chance it will be available by then.
