To all concerned,
Yesterday morning, I was asked to load 3 payroll expense runs into Banner,
which I did, in what I believe was a timely fashion.
Late morning, I was informed by Sandy Martin, that one of the 3 runs was a
major semi-monthly and that its corresponding commitments were ready to
process.
Unfortunately, due to the length of time it takes, on average, to process
commitments (5 hours at the very least) and the fact that I was unavailable
in the evening to finish the process from home, the commiments will appear
in FAST tomorrow morning, 1 day after the expenses. In addition, I cannot
always tell by looking at the contents of the file, what type of expense run it
is. One other of those 3 runs had a record count similar to the semi-monthly.
And frankly, I do not believe that I should have to make such a
determination.
I know that this normally causes all sorts of confusion and phone calls from
puzzled clients and normally, I would try to ascertain whether an expense
run requires a commitment load by inquiry. But I am the 'last line of defense'
and therefore, if I fail/forget to ask the proper question at the proper time, the
expenses will likely going a day ahead of commitments.
One solution I can think of is that someone 'in the know' informs me that
Run# xxx is a semi-monthly expense run, no later than at the time I am
requested to load it.
Just a thought.
Thanks - Maureen
