A variety of online resources are available during the COVID-19 pandemic, some that have previously been available only by subscription. MHIKNET staff have identified some resources that you may find useful.

We’ve pulled together a list of freely available COVID-19 information sources for health professionals and researchers. The list is periodically updated as new resources become available. Examples of featured resources include the Oxford COVID-19 Evidence Service, temporary free access to the entire Cochrane Library, and the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases podcast

The Hill Times

 

The Hill Times, Canada’s politics and government news service, is currently offering free access to its content in the form of a free trial (registration required)

 

Newspapers

 

Several newspapers are making their COVID-19 news coverage available for free, including:

·         The Winnipeg Free Press

·         Toronto Star

·         The Globe and Mail

·         National Post

K-12 Learning

 

CBC has made their subscription-based education site Curio accessible to all Canadian families. You can browse through carefully curated collections that support the K-12 curriculum, and discover different educational packages that include worksheets, hands-on activities and teacher guides. Curio.ca is available in both English and French. With the exception of the 3rd party channel content (ex: BBC and National Geographic videos), all the CBC and Radio-Canada content is available

 

Khan Academy offers practice exercises and instructional videos for math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more.

 

Code.org offers lessons in computer programming for students of all ages, K-12 and beyond.

 

Your Public Library

 

WPL card holders can access electronic reading material and stream movies and music 24/7. See their website for more information.

 

Public libraries outside of Winnipeg also have electronic resources available to card holders. Click on the map icons to surface information about each library, including the link to their website where you can find more information.

 

Live streaming at the Zoo

 

The Cincinnati Zoo is streaming a daily home safari that features different animals at the zoo and related activities that kids can do at home.

 

The  Assiniboine Park & Zoo is also offering live Creature Features on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1:00 p.m. 

 

Online Book Readings for Kids

 

The CBC lists a collection of taped and upcoming readings in their March 17th article.

 

Berliner Philharmoniker Digital Concert Hall

 

The Berliner Philharmoniker Digital Concert Hall features live streamed and recorded concerts, interviews and films. Register on the Digital Concert Hall ticket page before March 31st to get free access for 30 days.

 

Museums and Galleries Online

 

Google Arts & Culture features virtual exhibits and tours of world famous museums and galleries. Individual museums and galleries have also been featuring their collections and exhibits on social media using the hashtag #museumfromhome .
