Recently the WHO has released a draft guideline recommending that sugar intake be not more than 25g per day in adults. The guideline has been showing up in news items and I thought it was worth having a closer look at this topic. There has been a lot of research on sugar and artificial sweeteners looking at their impact on oral health, obesity, diabetes and kidney disease. Here is a link to the WHO guideline, some interesting videos from TEDtalks and The National you might want to share with your patients and a few recent articles. As always if you want more information about this topic or any other topic please request a literature search from us.
