Dear Colleagues,
I am so pleased to be the new Director of Outreach for our chapter, and I would like to thank Chris for giving me the opportunity to serve the neuroscience community in this way. As Chris has mentioned, our primary goal is to develop a consistent and meaningful program of outreach over the next several years. You will be hearing from me about our initiatives over the next several months. Engagement from neuroscientists at all levels will be key to the success of these programs, and I hope that you will consider participating.
Our first project is to develop a Neuroscience Speaker's Bureau - a directory of neuroscientists who are willing to give public talks on neuroscience-related topics. This directory will be available to the public on the chapter website. At this time, we are compiling the names of interested individuals, and we will then contact you to build your profile. Once the directory is completed, we will then advertise it to attract groups who are interested in hosting speakers. At present, there is no time commitment on your part. Your participation just indicates that you are willing to be listed in the directory and make public presentations if invited to do so (please note that you are not obligated to accept speaking engagements if they do not fit your schedule). Please respond to Kelly's original email if you would like to be included.
I look forward to working with all of you to enhance neuroscience awareness in our community.
Best wishes, Sari

Dear Neuroscientists,
As you know, one of the primary responsibilities of the Winnipeg Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is community outreach. The Chapter has been involved in Brain Awareness week and has given awards for neuroscience projects in school science fairs, among other initiatives recently. Our goal, however, is to gain a more consistent and meaningful outreach presence overall. To help achieve this goal, Dr. Sari Hannila has generously agreed to be the Director of Outreach for the Chapter. She has several initiatives planned and you will see emails from her from time to time describing them.
One of her first plans is to develop a roster of scientists who would be willing to give public outreach presentations. Once the list is compiled, she will ask for specific information so she can prepare the roster for 'marketing' and posting on the Winnipeg Chapter website. If you would like to be on the outreach speaker roster, please reply to this email.
Many thanks,
Sari Hannila and Chris Anderson

Dear all:
We are pleased to advise that the Manitoba Neuroscience Network's 5th Annual Scientific Meeting<http://www.sbrc.ca/mnn2014> is now OPEN for registration.
The two-day retreat style meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th - Wednesday, June 25th, 2014 will be held at the Lakeview Resort & Conference Centre<http://www.lakeviewhotels.com/hotels/gimli/>, Gimli MB. Please note that the meeting is open to FACULTY only.
The aim of the meeting is about providing a forum for new investigators, as well as about forging links between neuroscientists in Winnipeg. There will be a format that will encourage discussion between researchers from different pillars, with a plan to identify teams for future applications to CIHR. Another aim of the meeting is to inform the neuroscience community of future strategies and to give background on the role of the Kleysen Institute. One such example will be to generate discussion about the formation of a neuroscience graduate program.
A preliminary program is available online.
