Topic:  A place for the brain and the vagus nerve in the regulation of colonic inflammation?

Brief Biosketch: Dr. Jean-Eric Ghia is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Internal Medicine section of Gastroenterology at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He is also Director, Gastrointestinal Basic Biology Research, at the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Clinical and Research Centre. Dr. Ghia completed his B.Sc in Neurophysiology, M.Sc in Pharmacology, Clinical Trail Investigator Diploma and Ph.D in Neurosciences at the University of Strasbourg, France. To further build on his expertise, he moved to McMaster University to train with Dr. Stephen M Collins, a world authority in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. Dr. Ghia obtained several research awards and prizes, including a prize from the prestigious l’Institut de France and a fellowship from the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology and the Canadian Institute of Health research. Dr. Ghia’s researches focus on the regulation of colonic inflammation via the autonomic nervous system and the neuroimmunoendocrine system.

 

Expertise: Experimental model of gut inflammation, smooth muscle contraction, permeability, autonomic nervous system, vagus nerve, immunology.
