The following is forwarded on behalf of Dr. Doug Cattani, Acting Dept Head:
There is seed (soybeans?) in the Horticultural Storage Building that must be removed today. It will be thrown out tomorrow if it is still there. This building is not to be used to haphazardly leave materials.
In the future materials left in the building that is not properly stored and/or are not authorized to be in the building will be discarded.

Dear All,
As some may be aware, Paula Parks, a long-time Technician in the Department in Dr. Dilantha Fernando’s lab is retiring. Today, Friday, October 13 is her last working day.
Paula began working in the Department of Plant Science 42 years ago, first with the late Dr. Roger Rimmer (for 17 years) and then with Dr. Dilantha Fernando (for the last 25 years)! Paula managed the pathology lab (Fernando Lab) and worked on canola pathology. She was instrumental in working in the canola pathology program that screened thousands of canola and HEAR materials for the UM breeders and co-op testing for the Canola Council of Canada's WCCRRC program for nearly 42 years. Many canola and HEAR cultivars have been registered for growers through her screening for excellent blackleg resistance. Paula also graduated with a BSc from our department, which adds another 3-4 years!
On behalf of the Fernando Lab, and all of us in Plant Science, we’d like to thank Paula for her many years of dedication and service to the Department, and the canola industry.
Collectively we want to wish Paula all the best on her retirement.
Please save the date for Paula’s upcoming retirement celebration:
Thursday, November 9th
Time: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

All,
a reminder about the BBQ tomorrow @ 12 at the Point. Dilshan has offered to flight his drone (weather permitting) for a group picture!
Games:
1. Speed leaf raking
2. Football pumpkin target practices
3. Slingshot competition: take Dilshan's drone down and win a 30-day-paid leave (compliment of the Head). The first two shots are free, $5 for any additional shot.
See you tomorrow

Hi all,
We have a lot of Canna lily bulbs on east flower bed of the Plant Science building. There is also a very nice Meezo plant which can be easily propagated for next year indoors. Feel free to take some home if you like!
Thanks,
