Subject: New Protocols for Biobed 2023

Hi Justice,

Please send this email to everyone; it must be sent since it is to ensure another explosion doesn't happen at the biobed.

******

Hello Everyone!

I hope that the growing season is going well.

If you are receiving this email and are actively using the biobed, please read it to the end to ensure that you read this email.

An incident at the biobed occurred where a pipe disconnected and resulted in all of the rinsate becoming diluted and overflowing; this is no one's fault. However, in light of this, we must ensure that new practices are adopted to prevent flooding again. It has also resulted in me losing about 1 month of data for my thesis.

Please ensure the following:

  1. The main valve of the biobed (photos attached below; Image 1 and 2) is CLOSED once you are done using it to ensure that the water pressure doesn't exceed capacity;
  2. The Sump Pump Flow valve (Image 3, 4, and 5) is CLOSED once you are done using it to prevent water from entering the rinsate tank.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at nakagawt [at] myumanitoba [dot] ca that is, nakagawt@myumanitoba.ca. I monitor this email constantly.

I will also be on a course next week, in the Experimental Lakes Area. There is no cell service and limited internet.

Sincerely,
