Plan for Carman Field Tour and the Carman Games

The Events Committees have been working to plan the Carman Field Tour on July27.  The Grad Students have planned a “Carman Games” to follow the lunch.  Our goals for the day are to learn about each others’ research, socialize, and have some fun.

Attached is travel information for those who not been to the Ian N. Morrison Research Farm in Carman.  The main routes are highway 3 or highway 2 (neither are under construction right now).  Highway 3 is the shortest route.  Please park in the guest parking lot on the south side of the main building (see attached).  All vehicles going into the field plots need to be washed at the spray pad.

Please make your own arrangements for travel.  Let Curt McCartney know if you need help, but try to sort this out as much as possible between different groups.

Please arrive at the farm around 9:15 am.  There will be coffee and donuts available at the main building before the tour gets started (in the atrium of the main building and the grass on the west side).

We will be splitting the tour into three groups with all groups following the same route.  We are expecting about 140 people, so this will help keep the groups to a manageable size.  The first tour group will depart at 9:45 and then ever 10 minutes.  All speakers will start in the first tour group.  Once at their tour stop, they will present to all tour groups and continue on the tour with the last tour group.  This will allow the speakers to see everyone’s presentations.  The tour will end at the main building where we will have a catered lunch at 12:50 pm.  The Carman Games will follow lunch at about 2:00 or 2:30 pm.

The lunch will be served in the atrium with seating inside and outside.  Please take the lunch that you requested.  Those who requested gluten-free and vegan will be able to pickup their lunches in the kitchen.  The regular and vegetarian lunches will be served in the regular lunch lineup. 

Please dress for the weather (rain jacket, sunscreen, possibly mosquito spray).  Walking shoes are recommended.  Shoes will need to be sanitized by walking through a solution (likely spray nine) to prevent introduction of plant pathogens onto the farm (biosecurity).

Speakers: Please check the schedule to see when you present, and how much time you have been allotted.  Please stick to your allotted speaking time.  We will cut people off if we are falling behind schedule.
