CANADIAN WHEAT BOARD (CWB) GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS: 2009-2010
Fellowships will be awarded on the basis of a proven record of
outstanding academic achievement and research interest in areas of study
directly related to wheat and barley production, marketing and
utilization. Any student pursuing graduate studies in these areas can
apply for a CWB fellowship. Preference will be given to projects which
address the research priorities. However, proposals in other areas will
be considered as well. The selection process will take into
consideration the benefit to western Canadian producers.
Please see me for a copy of the application and the research
priorities. Applications for the 2009-2010 competition and the research
priorities will be available on the CWB web site
(http://cwb.ca/public/en/ under "About Us") after January 23, 2009.
Please note that the application includes the section "18. Practical
Application". Special care should be taken by students to complete this
section for it will be an important criteria used in determining the
successful candidates.
Deadline for receipt of applications for this award is Friday, February
6, 2009 in the Student Services Office, Room 160 Agriculture Building
(attention: Wendy Kramer).

Hello all,
No body listens to you? No one is interested to hear about your research?
We are willing to listen to you at Plant Science discussion group (PSDG)!
As future scientists, studying at public institutions, we are to
critically analyze our research in terms of its societal implications.
Plant Science discussion group will focus on subjects such as;
-role of universities and scientists in society
-scientists obligations and responsibilities to general public
-environmental, economical and political aspects of agricultural research
-and anything that YOU think that needs to be discussed!
We are planning to meet bi-weekly on Thursday evenings, over a drink, in
a very casual setting. If you cannot make it, you can suggest a
different time slot as this is only a tentative arrangement.
First meeting will be this Thursday (Jan 22) @ 5pm, and we will meet at
Degrees, 3rd floor of university center.
Depending on the consensus, we may be discussing the following subject:
Science And Society ? Whose Responsibility? ?The idea of ?knowledge
for its own sake? does not exonerate scientists from being responsible
for what they do; but nor are they to be blamed for what society does
with what they discover and invent. (Dr. Bob Brecher)
Please respond to Harun if you are planning to join;
umcicek(a)cc.umanitoba.ca or you can simply show up!
See you all!
