Subject: Student Presentations for Advanced Plant Science Seminar
PhD students needing to present a seminar during this winter term for Advanced Plant Science Seminar (PLNT 7420) need to contact Dr. Lawley by Friday January 10th to secure a spot on the seminar schedule. A notice was sent out to students enrolled in PLNT 7420 in December but no one contacted Dr. Lawley for a seminar slot. If you or one of your students will need to present, please have the student email Yvonne_lawley(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:Yvonne_lawley@umanitoba.ca> in order to secure a spot on the schedule.

Subject: 3MT(r) Application Deadline
There is only one week left to register for this year's 3MT(r) competition. Thanks to your support, last year's competition was well-received and created quite a "buzz"! We'd like to build on that success. Please encourage the graduate students in your unit to participate in this year's competition.
I am strongly encouraging all graduate students in thesis-based programs to take part in this year's 3MT(r) competition. As you know, the competition requires a challenger to contextualize and articulate (in three minutes or less) their research. Last year's challengers will attest to the fact that this is not an easy task, but was one that led to personal growth. Participating in 3MT(r) is the perfect opportunity for a student to refine their communication skills and provides a valuable opportunity to publicize their research.
If you'd like to see last year's winners, please visit the following link: http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/3mt/winners.html
The competition is open to master's and doctoral students in thesis-based programs. Find out more information at: umanitoba.ca/3mt<http://umanitoba.ca/3mt>.
Apply now: umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/3mt/apply.html<http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/3mt/apply.html>

Cash Prizes!
First place: $5,000
Second place: $2,000

I appreciate your continued support of this fun and informative event.
