The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is partnering with the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) this winter to provide a writing tutor service for FAFS graduate students. The tutor is a graduate student with a strong background in writing at the graduate level and has participated in training offered through the ALC. They have ample experience working one-to-one with students on their writing. The tutor will work in Study Room 232A in the William R. Newman (FAFS) Library on Tuesdays from 2:00-4:00pm and Fridays from 10:00-11:00pm, beginning January 17. You can make a one-hour appointment with the tutor to discuss your writing and receive reader-based feedback on drafts of course papers, research proposals, or chapters in your thesis. PSGSA upcoming events and housekeeping

Hi all, Just a few updates on upcoming events relating to the PSGSA: * Chinese new year is on January 25th, so we will be holding a Chinese new year lunch on the 24th (a Friday). You can expect a signup sheet in the grad student lounge soon (Keep an eye out for another email about it the beginning of next week). * Endowment fund proposals are due at the end of February, so if you have any ideas regarding upgrades needed around the department (The new mailboxes in the lounge and the picnic tables in the courtyard came from the endowment, for reference) so if you have any ideas for endowment fund proposals feel free to let us know! * Another thing we use the endowment fund for is hosting guest speakers to give seminars and/or workshops for the department/faculty. We are asking the graduate student body for recommendations of speakers (either academic or industry affiliated) involved in plant science, so send any ideas our way. See you around! PS. You've probably heard of the recent string of suspicious persons/theft in the department. We just want to remind everyone avoid keeping valuables or cash in the lounge (it was broken into recently) and make sure to lock your offices/labs/etc when they are vacant.

2020 Plant Science Graduate Student Symposium - Registration and Abstract Submission

Hi all, As you know from our previous e-mails, the annual plant science graduate student symposium will be held in Saskatoon this year from March 13th-14th. Registration is available on their website (https://agbio.usask.ca/plscgradsymposium/index.php) along with plenty of information on everything happening at the symposium. The graduate students at USask are also accepting abstracts for 10-12 minute oral presentations of your research (no poster session this year). I encourage everyone to consider presenting your project even if it's in the early stages! Submission of abstracts can also be done through the website linked above. If/when you decide that you want to attend please respond to this email to let us know, as we will be organizing for a department vehicle to drive to and from Saskatoon.
