Graduate Student Sponsorship Program for attendance at the WFPM
The Western Forum on Pest Management started awarding Student Travel Bursaries to encourage grad student participation at our annual meeting in 2017. Despite the short notice we’d like to continue this in 2022.

This year 4 travel bursaries, intended for a BC, AB, SK and MB student are available to be awarded to cover attendance and travel costs. Travel to Grande Prairie will likely still require travel costs for AB students and interested students are encouraged to attend and apply if offsetting travel and accommodation costs would facilitate their attendance and understanding of the scope of the annual Western Forum meeting.
Background: This offering provides free registration and includes conference meals for graduate students studying plant pathology or entomology or a related field at Universities located in the four western provinces. There are four travel awards available; assumed to be one for each of BC, AB, SK, & MB in 2022. Each award has a maximum value of $750 based on a travel budget submitted by the graduate student applicant. It is generally expected that the full sum of the award will be awarded to offset travel, accommodation, meals and incidental costs not included in the conference registration. Awards will be based on both student merit and financial need in order for students to attend, awarded at the discretion of the selection committee.
Application process: A graduate student applying for a WFPM Travel Award must submit the following application documents to Meghan Vankosky by email at Vankosky, Meghan Meghan.Vankosky@AGR.GC.CA.
1) a copy of their CV; 2) a half page overview of their research project; 3) a brief budget for travel; and 4) a short recommendation letter from their supervisor.
Please submit as quickly as possible as this meeting is next week. Tentative deadline of Oct 24th, 3:30pm MST.
