Opportunity to Co-lead a Group of Students on an International Volunteer Project Summer 2016

To all interested Faculty and Graduate Students,

International Student Volunteers (ISV) is looking for faculty and graduate students to serve as University Leaders (UL) for a minimum of two weeks on ISV’s 2016 May to September Volunteer Programs in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and South Africa (expenses covered, see below for details). Our staff will be visiting the University of Manitoba area for a week starting next Friday, September 25th, and would love to meet with anyone interested in learning more about this opportunity.

The ISV Program

ISV’s renowned two week volunteer program was awarded by the US State Department as one of the Top Ten Volunteer Organizations in our nation and consists of hands-on educational conservation or community development projects.

ISV is seeking University Leaders to co-lead a group of 12 or more of their students alongside a trained ISV Project Leader for the two week volunteer project.  Our projects focus on experiential education and making a positive impact to underserved communities, degraded habitats and endangered species by working closely with local organizations and community leaders within each host country. Project activities include:

·         Building playgrounds, latrines, clinics, daycare centers and classrooms in Dominican Republic, Thailand, South Africa and Costa Rica

·         Children’s healthcare and education programs in Dominican Republic and South Africa

·         Teaching basic English, math, health and hygiene, sports and recreation to children

·         Assisting with terrestrial and marine ecology research programs

·         Habitat restoration to protect wildlife in Australia and New Zealand

·         Organic farming and erosion control

·         Design and delivery of environmental education, recycling and sustainable tourism programs

·         Providing care for threatened wildlife and recued animals such as elephants in Thailand, cheetahs in South Africa, and sea turtles in Costa Rica

·         Special focus projects for pre-veterinary groups in sanctuaries and reserves

Please see the ISV website (www.isvolunteers.org) for detailed information about the ISV organization, programs, destination countries, and more. Read a blog from a past University Leader trip to Costa Rica, and another one to South Africa; and get a 90 second taste of the ISV programs here.
