SONJA I. BATA MATERIAL CULTURE SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship valued at up to $7,275 · For Master’s & PhD students 
Research Fields(s): Including but not limited to: Anthropology, Environmental Studies, History, Native Studies, Fine Arts, Archival Studies, Engineering, or any of the Natural Sciences as they relate to artifact preservation (including geochemical characterization and DNA analysis)
Details: Open to Canadian and International students conducting research related to material culture, with “material culture” defined as documenting the meaning, traditions and values revealed in making, interpreting, preservation, or history (including that in the distant past), of the physical evidence (objects and architecture) of a culture’s heritage; and with “Arctic” defined as including and north of the continuous Permafrost, in Canada and throughout the Circumpolar region

Research Field(s): Cardiovascular or Cerebrovascular
Details: The Grant-in-Aid (GIA) program provides operating funds to support important, pertinent, novel research in the areas of heart disease and/or stroke. This support may be provided for a maximum of three years.

Maximum $50,000 Master’s students; $90,000 Doctoral students · For Master's and PhD students
Research Field(s): Indigenous scholars whose traditional and ancestral territories are in Canada, commitment to working in heart and/or brain research.
Details: Stipends will enable Indigenous trainees to focus on their research studies and engage with mentors as part of their training.

VANIER CANADA GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
Maximum $50,000 per year for three years · For PhD students
Research Field(s): Health, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Humanities (i.e., CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC).
Details: Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students, the Vanier CGS program is designed to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and provide a significant financial award to assist in their studies at Canadian universities. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement. Students must submit an application and be nominated by their Department Head to be considered at the institutional level. Successful applications at the institutional level are then forwarded to Vanier to compete at the national level for a scholarship.

A 12 month program offered in partnership with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. The program will provide supplementary entrepreneurship support to recipients of NSERC’s I2I Phase 1 grant who are looking to build their idea into a market-ready product.
