Dear Grad Students,
The Social Committee (Iris, Anne,
Meghan, Jessica, Kaleigh, Teresa and I) have decided that for the
summer months we are going to have activities planned once a month to
try to get all of the grad students out and getting to know eachother
better.
The activity for the month of June is
the Red River Ex. Now for those of you who aren't familiar with "the
Ex" it is a carnival that comes around to Winnipeg (this year it is
June 13-22) which involes rides, carnival games, concerts, exhibits, a
petting zoo and delicious carnival food. It is located in the Red
River Exhibition Park (west on Portage Ave i.e. towards Brandon/Portage
la Prarie). We are planning to go either June 21 (Saturday) or the 22

Now there is going to have to be quite
a bit of organization for this event to be a success. First of all,
there is purchasing the tickets. The most cost effective way to
purchase your tickets is to buy the early bird tickets (i.e. before
June 12 at midnight).
Tickets before June12 at midnight are:
- $29.40 (unlimited rides, admission)
at Mac's; or
- $7.35 (gate admission ONLY) at
Sobey's; or
- $15.75 (10 ride swipe card) at Sobey's
Tickets purchased between June 13-22
are:
- $39.99 (unlimited rides, admission)
at Mac's; or
- $7.35 (gate admission ONLY) at
Sobey's; or
- $26.25 (10 ride swipe card) at Sobey's
At the gate...
- $8.00 (general admission)
- Free (children 6 and under)
- $1.00 (1 ride coupon)
- $10.00 (11 rides)
- $20.00 (22 rides)
- $50.00 (55 rides)
What your social committee has decided
to do is to collect everyone's money and purchase the tickets
together. This way, you won't have to worry about finding the time to
pick up your ticket.
The next thing is rides. For those
who have a vehicle available, we should think about carpooling out
there (once we determine how many drivers we have we can figure out a
meeting place). Winnipeg Transit also provides a shuttle to the ex

Please let me know if you are
interested in joining us at the Ex and if you are willing to share your
vehicle with carpoolers. This will be a great opportunity to meet and
get to know your fellow grad students better and to get out of your
office and have some fun!
