Barley breeding at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada – Brandon Research and Development Centre (AAFC-BRDC) has a long tradition. Through the years, barley cultivars developed at the Centre such as Parkland, Bonanza, AC Ranger, and AC Metcalfe have had a significant
role for the Canadian farmers and end-users. Most recently, the newer cultivars like AAC Synergy and AAC Connect have continued to hold on and extend that success, surpassing the challenging barriers in yield and disease resistance. The seminar will cover
various aspects such as the current breeding focus, methodology, and objectives of the program. Moreover, the most recent research efforts made to support the transition towards next generation breeding will be presented.
