Invitation to Participate in a Food Study

Researchers from the University of Manitoba invite you to participate in the following food studies:

Barley Tortilla Study

This study is designed to determine the glycemic response of barley tortillas in healthy volunteers.  You will be asked to attend 6 visits one week apart for 3.5 hours per visit for product testing.  To participate, you must be between the ages of 18 to 40 years and have no chronic or acute medical conditions or allergies to barley.  Blood samples will be taken. 

Buckwheat Cracker Study

This study is designed to determine the glycemic response of buckwheat crackers in healthy volunteers (no chronic or acute medical conditions) and volunteers with type 2 diabetes (diet controlled). You will be asked to attend 4 visits one week apart for 3.5 hours per visit for product testing followed by consumption of buckwheat crackers daily for 7 days.  To participate, you must be between the ages of 18 to 70 years and have no allergies to eggs, buckwheat, rice flour, or the sugar substitute Splenda.  Blood samples will be taken. 

Your involvement in these studies is strictly voluntary.  Your identity and the data collected will be kept confidential. An honorarium will be provided.  For more information, please call 237-2570 or email us at ccarm@sbrc.ca

An information session is being held with a representative from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to provide:

  • Information on undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctorate scholarships and fellowships

A question and answer period will follow the presentations.
