We enjoyed an interesting seminar on Participatory Plant Breeding last week - and there was a lively and positive discussion afterwards.
We have a PPB program here in the department that has been operating since 2011 http://umanitoba.ca/outreach/naturalagriculture/ppb.html. We work with 78 farmers across Canada on wheat, oats and potato. This program has produced a great deal of genetic material that may be of interest to staff and students in the dept. There are also many interesting points about farmers rights that were raised at the seminar - these also require further exploration.
So, I propose we start at PPB Club in our Department.
First meeting
January 4 10 AM in Room 218. Martin Entz will provide a background on our program and Michelle Carkner will give a brief overview of her work with Canadian PPB farmers.
Hope to see you there!
Martin
