Extension Coordinator, Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers, Carman, Manitoba
Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers (MPSG) is the non-profit commodity organization representing over 3,800 farmers in Manitoba who grow soybeans, edible beans, peas and faba beans. Research and production are key focus areas that have expanded significantly in the past three years. A full-time Extension Coordinator manages and implements the extension activities of the research and production program. Reporting to the Director of Research and Production, the Extension Coordinator will manage MPSG's extension events, assist in communication of research results, and promote of MPSG activities and resources. This position is a great opportunity for networking and building relationships within the agricultural industry and be part of a dynamic research and production team.
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage MPSG agronomy extension events (Getting it Right meeting, SMART field day, Soybean Stop, regional meetings);
Manage research and production knowledge transfer through MPSG's Pulse Beat publication
Manage the distribution of production resources and promote MPSG's activities through tradeshows, MPSG's website, Agronomy Engagement Program, etc.
Assist with development and distribution of production resources, social media, the Bean Report and news releases;
Assist with the development and distribution of On-Farm Network reports;
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with researchers, Manitoba Agriculture, other commodity organizations and industry representatives
Qualifications:
BSc in Agriculture
Designation as a Professional Agrologist or qualifications to obtain within 2 years of employment an asset
Certified Crop Advisor designation or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment an asset
Knowledge of farming community and/or public relations
Event planning experience an asset
Strong understanding and familiarity with Canadian agriculture and agronomy practices
Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher and Outlook)
Working knowledge of statistical analysis and research design an asset
Project management experience (development, implementation and delivery)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
Interest and enthusiasm to network within the agricultural industry and the community
Website management or development an asset
Self-starter; highly motivated
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to multi-task and prioritize
A positive and team-oriented attitude
Experience working for a not for profit and Board of Directors considered an asset
Valid Manitoba driver's license
