The Academic Learning Centre offers group and one-to-one programming to enhance students’ academic learning, writing and research skills.

ˇ       Supplemental Instruction—weekly review sessions in historically challenging classes, especially classes in the STEM fields and with common curricula

ˇ       Course-based writing tutors—support for all students in a class with early feedback on writing

ˇ       Training for tutors or leaders from other academic programs and departments at the U of M

ˇ       In-class workshops to build skills in key areas and for specific assignments

ˇ       Workshops and online resources for students

ˇ       One-to-one tutoring to refine academic skills and develop learning strategies

 

ALC workshops delivered for the Faculty of Graduate Studies Grad Steps Workshop Series

 

Workshops specifically designed to support UM graduate students, including topics such as:

 

     Citing, Referencing and Paraphrasing

     Thesis Structure and Organization

     Writing Processes and Routines

     Poster Presentations

     Oral Presentation

     Writing a Journal Article

     Writing a Literature Review

     Reading and note-taking strategies

     Synthesizing research

     Finding Relevant Research

     Communicating Research: Knowledge Translation
