The Canadian Agri-Food Foundation (CAFF) is excited to be a recipient of RBC Foundation funding through RBC Tech for Nature. This support from the RBC Foundation will partially fund the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute’s (CAPI) environmental sustainability initiative Spearheading Sustainable Solutions over the next two years, which aims to advance policy solutions that support the sector’s ongoing improvements to its sustainability.
The Spearheading Sustainable Solutions initiative includes CAPI’s Doctoral and Distinguished Fellowship programs and a project tackling agriculture and land use resiliency while balancing environmental goals with food security.
This RBC Tech for Nature donation funds the 2022-2024 Doctoral Fellows program, which supports a transdisciplinary research network of doctoral students. This cohort’s research focus will be ‘the Intersection of Trade, Environment and Food Security’ and will cover five research papers, webinars, workshops, an advisory council, and professional development over the next two years.

RBC Tech for Nature will also contribute partial funding of CAPI’s Distinguished Fellows, who serve as ambassadors on critical policy issues within agriculture.
CAPI’s most recent Distinguished Fellow, Grace Skogstad, is examining how organized interests in the agri-food sector interact with the shared jurisdiction that Canada’s federal and provincial governments enjoy over agriculture to shape policy-making for the agri-food sector.
Distinguished Fellow and acclaimed journalist, Nicolas Mesly, is using his experience as an agricultural economist and ecological reporter to explore how Canada’s agri-food system can turn challenges surrounding water into an opportunity.

Water is a source of conflict between countries, but also within nations. Canada, although it has immense natural resources, including 7% of the world’s freshwater reserves, is one of the countries most affected by climate change.
The project explores how Canada’s agri-food system, including the public and private sectors and civil society can turn the challenges of water, such as scarcity, trade of water, and water’s role in food processing, into an opportunity.

La Fondation canadienne de l'agroalimentaire (FCAF) est ravie d'être l'un des bénéficiaires du financement Techno nature RBC. Ce soutien de la Fondation RBC financera en partie, au cours des deux prochaines années, l'initiative de durabilité environnementale de l'Institut canadien des politiques agro-alimentaires (ICPA) intitulée À l'avant-garde des solutions durables, qui vise à équilibrer les objectifs climatiques du Canada tout en augmentant la production agricole et en maintenant l'intégrité écologique de nos ressources naturelles.
Ce financement permettra de soutenir de nombreux projets dans le cadre de l'initiative À l'avant-garde des solutions durables, notamment les programmes de bourses de doctorat et de chercheurs émérites de l'ICPA, ainsi qu'un projet portant sur l'agriculture et la résilience de l'utilisation des terres tout en équilibrant les objectifs environnementaux et la sécurité alimentaire.
Ce don de Techno nature RBC finance entièrement le programme de bourses de doctorat 2022-2024, qui soutient un petit réseau de recherche transdisciplinaire composé d'étudiants au doctorat. L'objectif de recherche de cette cohorte sera « l'intersection du commerce, de l'environnement et de la sécurité alimentaire » et portera sur cinq documents de recherche, des webinaires, des ateliers, un conseil consultatif, et le développement professionnel au cours des deux prochaines années.

L’eau est une source de conflit entre les pays, mais aussi au sein de ceux-ci. Le Canada, bien qu’il possède d’immenses ressources naturelles, dont 7 % des réserves mondiales d’eau douce, est l’un des pays les plus touchés par les changements climatiques.
Le projet étudiera comment le système agroalimentaire du Canada, y compris les secteurs public et privé et la société civile, peut transformer les défis liés à l’eau, comme la rareté, le commerce de l’eau et le rôle de l’eau dans la transformation des aliments, en une possibilité.
