The following message is sent on behalf of Mark Walc, University Budget Officer, Financial Planning Office:

Thank you once again for all of your efforts in preparing the 2018/19 operating budget.  During the budget analysis and balancing phase, an effort has been made to ensure each Faculty and Central Support Unit is allocated a budget consistent with the budget guidelines shared at the start of the 2018/19 budget process. Based on this analysis, as well as the explanations provided for the variances between the budget entered and what was expected for 2018/19, several units have been asked to make adjustments to their budget.

UM Plan is open for adjustments.

·         Business Managers of units expected to make adjustments received an email on Friday March 2, 2018 with instructions to update their budgets in UM Plan by end of day Thursday March 8, 2018

·         Other units that wish to make adjustments that do not change their overall budget request (e.g. moving budget between FOAs, updating position numbers, etc.) may do so within that timeframe as well.

·         If you are adjusting salaries, please take care to consider the auto-calculated benefits.

After all adjustments are made to Faculties and Central Support Units, allocations will be re-run so Faculties will be able to see the impacts to their net budget.  The resulting budget will be reviewed by the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) and the Vice President (Administration) and further decisions will be made to achieve a balanced budget.

This has been a year of significant change, not only in how the budget is prepared and by whom, but also with what is included and excluded in unit budgets.

Your tremendous contribution to this important initiative is very much appreciated and your ongoing questions and suggestions about the budget model and process will be integral in ensuring the model becomes a sound, transparent and meaningful method for allocating our financial resources.

Should you have any concerns about the adjustments requested or in meeting the deadline, please contact Mark directly at 204.474.9232 or email Mark.Walc@umanitoba.ca  as soon as possible.

Thank-you for your assistance.
