Hi Everyone:
Rhonda has anticipated me with her suggestion that we come to the next meeting prepare so as to achieve the most for the time we devote.
I was already going to suggest that we address the problem of too-frequent meetings by anticipating matters that we’ll need to address and creating a more comprehensive
agenda for the meetings we do have. In my experience, people are able to make time for meetings that are not overly frequent as long as they feel they are accomplishing a lot. I expect this must be even more important for those who are coming from far away.
For instance, I notice that one item I had asked to be added is not yet on the agenda for Saturday. Molly McCracken from the CCPA emailed me to ask if we could
come to an agreement about a shared speaking engagement for Billy Bragg. I will forward her email to the committee. I hope those who are working on the possibility of Billy Bragg event will be able to consider this matter so we have something to discuss.
The other issue that we should consider is that the academics on the committee will soon be moving into research mode. We allocate our time outside of teaching
terms to our research, which often involves travel. Even when we are home, we consider our research time very precious because it’s so short and we have much to accomplish. If it’s hard to squeeze out time for meetings during the teaching term, it will be
even harder when we are doing our research.
Best,
julie

Thanks, everyone! As Jim mentioned, we have a number of key points to discuss to ensure our successful submission of the SSHRC application at the beginning of May.
If everyone could please come prepared with a list of organizations from whom we can get support (in-kind or financial), that is very important. I’m thinking of/referring to those in each of our own networks - for example, I’m meeting
with the CSULR today (its the AGM), and I’ll be looking to get a letter documenting their financial support (which they’ve already confirmed at a past board meeting). We need to have confirmed at least 50% matching funds for SSHRC. Jim and I will need this
paperwork before the end of the month. We will have more detailed info to share on this at the meeting; with this, we can all fan out to get confirmed support and letters.
All the best,

Thanks Jim.
I do not agree at all that these items could be decided upon via e-mail.
See you on Saturday.

As I mentioned before, I feel this is an important meeting. Also we established afternoon meetings since there are a couple of us who drive Brandon or Grand Forks. And,
as previously, we could potentially meet on weekday afternoons in the summer.

I would be ok with that unless there’s a time in the week during the evening. To be honest, with spring (hopefully) on its way, it’s less likely many of us will be wanting to give up a Saturday afternoon.

Hi Everyone:
There a few regrets and it seems to me that it might be possible for us to address the matters on the agenda by email, thus freeing up everyone’s weekend. What do others think?
