3. Convocatoria: Session of the Cervantes Society of America: What does “being human” mean in Cervantes’ works?

Echoing the presidential conference theme, we invite papers dealing with the question of what “being human” means in Cervantes’s oeuvre. Non-restricting examples of different approaches to this topic are:

Human vs. animal; Ethical dimensions of “being human”; Human as a gendered category; Human and race and ethnicity; Human and social class; Degrees of “being human”; Human and “bonhomía”. Abstracts will be reviewed by a selection committee. Send 250-word abstracts by March 8, 2019 to Mercedes Alcalá-Galán, University of Wisconsin-Madison, malcalag@wisc.edu.
