Approved Changes to B.Ed. Admission Criteria for 2026–27 Intake

Dear Colleagues,

On October 30, 2024, Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning announced significant changes to teacher certification requirements in the province.

In response to these changes, the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Education engaged in an extensive and thorough consultative process with all internal and external stakeholders.

We are pleased to share that, at the May 14, 2025 meeting of Senate, the faculty’s proposed updates to B.Ed. admissions were approved. These changes will take effect for the 2026–27 application cycle (with a deadline of February 1, 2026).

We will also be offering two virtual information sessions for students who are interested in applying to the B.Ed. program. These sessions will focus exclusively on the updated admission criteria:

Our Communications Coordinator will be sending media graphics and messages regarding the new Bachelor of Education admission requirements and the upcoming information sessions to all U of M faculty marketing departments for promotion and distribution.
