Beginning August 2026, the
Student Counselling Centre (SCC) introduced a new way for University of Manitoba students to access mental health support: One-at-a-Time counselling Sessions (OAATS). OAATS is designed to provide students with timely, focused support for the issues that
matter most. With OAATS, students can:
- Access counselling sooner with appointments available throughout the week.
- Focus on their most important concern in a single, meaningful counselling session.
- Develop practical strategies and next steps they can begin using right away.
- Receive compassionate, professional support in a welcoming environment.
- Return for additional sessions when appropriate or be connected with ongoing counselling and other services (groups/workshops) if
needed.
- Choose in-person or virtual appointments (when appropriate) to meet their needs.
OAATS is replacing traditional intake appointments and can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance either in-person, by telephone or
online. When referring a student, simply encourage them to contact the SCC. You do not need to determine what type of counselling the student requires. OAATS services are available to all
University of Manitoba students, ICM and English Language Centre students as well as students on suspension or leave.
The SCC will continue to offer traditional ongoing individual counselling services for students when appropriate and will also continue to offer counselling groups and workshops. Students do not need to attend an OAATS session to register
in one of their groups or workshops.
