The Business of Music with a local producer and musician
This course will introduce students to the business side of music. It will provide a survey of music business topics including artist management, music marketing, rights and royalties, concert promotion, contracts, grants and funding, and financial planning. Students in all genres, including classical, jazz, pop, folk, and more, will learn from experienced industry professionals, gain insight into industry roles, and acquire skills required to succeed in the music business. The course will prepare students for a professional future in music with tools to navigate the sector as a songwriter/composer, performer, arts worker, or industry professional. May not be held with MUSC 3830 when titled Business of Music. Open to all UM Students

Intro to Game Audio with Mack Enns

This course offers a hands-on introduction to how sound and music shape the experience of video games. Students will explore the creative, aesthetic, and technical roles of game audio through guided projects, critical listening, and real-world examples from contemporary games. No programming or prior audio experience is required. Through practical experimentation with intuitive, industry-standard tools such as FMOD Studio, students will learn foundational principles of game audio design, including interactive music, sound effects, and audio implementation. Projects will include creative exercises inspired by games such as Celeste and other accessible 2D titles, allowing students to explore how sound contributes to gameplay, storytelling, and player experience. Open to all UM Students.
