Labour
Relations Update – AESES-UMSS (Security Services)
As
of Wednesday, August 18, 2010, the University of Manitoba and AESES-UMSS
(Security Services) have not been successful in reaching a collective
agreement.
In
the event that the University’s final offer is not accepted by the
members as of Friday, August 20, 2010, an impasse will have been reached and
either strike action or a lockout would occur. This would apply only to
Security Services Patrol Officers and Supervisors and would not apply to the
AESES main bargaining unit.
Should
a strike or lockout occur:
(i)
the University will continue to operate in
the normal course. Scheduled classes will continue to be held and support
services will be maintained;
(ii)
the University will ensure that security is
maintained through the services of one or more security firms. Contact
Linda Lavallee, Director Security Services at 474-8709, with any particular
concerns that may need to be addressed.
All
staff, students and the general public have the right to cross picket lines.
Staff not included in the AESES-UMSS (Security Services) bargaining unit are
expected to work as usual during any strike/lockout of AESES-UMSS (Security
Services) members.
Additional
information will be posted on the University’s website as it becomes
available.
