Dear UM Community,

We want to inform you that the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) has apprehended the suspect involved in the incident that took place yesterday in the Arthur V. Mauro Residence.

We extend our gratitude to both the WPS and our University Security Services for their swift and diligent response. We also appreciate the vigilance and support of our university community and the public during this time.

The safety and well-being of our university community remains our top priority. In response to this event, we have introduced additional security measures on campus, including:

• Increased security presence in the lobby of each residence building on a 24-hour basis, complementing our regular nightly security schedule.

• Additional security personnel at residence lobby entrances.

• Routine checks of all residence entrances and exits.

• A review and enhancement of specific door security as needed.

We recognize that situations like this can be distressing. If you feel impacted and would like support, we encourage you to reach out to the Student Counselling Centre or supports for faculty and staff.

To help ensure a secure environment, we encourage everyone to stay aware of and use the safety resources available on campus.
