The School Streets concept - car-free areas in front of schools during arrival and dismissal times that have been used in the UK and other European countries - is being piloted in Canada (Toronto) for the first time.

Ontario Active School Travel is hosting a webinar on planning and implementing School Streets, which could be valuable for many AT network members!

                  School Streets Webinar

Register for School Streets Webinar
Thursday, 21 November 2019 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM (EST)

Ontario Active School Travel and 8 80 Cities present a webinar on School Streets, a successful program from the U.K. that has been proven to improve safety, reduce air pollution, and encourage more active transportation.

School Streets are appearing in cities across the UK and Europe, where communities take part in creating car-free zones in front of schools at peak drop-off and pick-up times.

Hackney Borough Council is a municipality that has pioneered the installation of School Street zones in the City of London, U.K. with 4 permanent zones established to date, and 3 more pilots underway in 2019. Building on the lessons learnt in Hackney, 8 80 Cities teamed up with Keele Street Public School, Toronto District School Board and EcoKids to host the first School Streets pilot project in Canada this October.
