This will be the first winter for Calgary’s cycle track pilot project, and some are wondering what it will mean for snow plowing.
Brittany Kustra is with the City of Calgary’s roads department and told 660 NEWS how it will work.
“The cycle track is all on priority one roads so they’ll be cleared within 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling. Those marked on-street bike lanes are priority two roads which means they will be cleared within 48 hours after the snow stops falling,” said Kustra.
Crews will use a special piece of equipment called a weele to clear the bike lanes themselves.
One note, the green posts dividing the downtown cycle track from car traffic will be staying, and that could make it more difficult for the plows to move the snow off the street.
