Subject: [At-network] Warming Hearts in Winnipeg: Dr. Catherine
O'Brien
to present in
Winnipeg
Hello AT Network partners!
Dr.
Catherine O’Brien, Canada’s leading expert on planning
for
sustainable happiness, will be in Winnipeg for a consultation in early
February
(10th, 11th or 12th – we still have
to
work out the specific details). She has agreed to speak to members
of
Winnipeg’s AT Network for a reduced rate of $500 (down from $1500, as
she
will already be in town), and we are currently looking for partners to
help
share the cost of her speaking
fee.
She
is a Research Associate of the Centre for Sustainable Transportation, and
she
is the co-author of “Child and Youth Friendly Land Use and
Transport
Planning Guidelines” for Canadian Provinces and Territories. In
addition,
Dr. O’Brien has drawn from the fields of positive psychology
and
sustainability to develop a new concept: sustainable happiness. She
defines
this as the pursuit of happiness that is respectful of other people,
the
natural environment and future generations. Her work emphasizes
the
significance of creating communities that meet the needs and aspirations
of
children and planning for sustainable happiness (see attached
studies).
Please
contact me as soon as possible if you are able to contribute!
best,
Jackie
