PEDESTRIAN HIT ON PORTAGE

TRAFFIC on a stretch of Portage Avenue in the Crestview area was closed after police say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Pat Saydak told the Free Press officers responded to the “serious” incident on Portage Avenue at Parkdale Street around 1:30 p.m. The eastbound lanes of Portage Avenue from Westwood Drive to Parkdale Street were closed while police investigated Monday.

In video of the collision, obtained by the Free Press, the victim can be seen attempting to cross Portage Avenue at an uncontrolled crossing when they are hit by a white pick-up truck travelling on eastbound Portage.

Fire crews, police and ambulance arrived on scene a short while later.

Saydak did not have information on the condition of the victim or the circumstances of the accident and police did not respond to further requests for information.
