Winnipeg, MB. - The
City of Winnipeg is pleased to offer a free public workshop, Land Use Planning – The Big Picture on Saturday,
June 4, 2016 at the Millennium Library.
The Land Use Planning – The Big Picture workshop
is the first in a series of courses the City plans to offer under the educational umbrella of Planning Ed, the City’s planning education initiative. The workshop was first offered in November of 2015, and is being offered again due to significant public interest.
“The City is committed to building a more open and transparent Winnipeg,” says Chief Planner Braden Smith. “This planning workshop will help residents better understand the planning
process, enable participation and discussion, and ultimately help us shape the content of future public education offerings related to urban planning.”
The workshop will increase understanding of local planning and development processes among interested members of the public. Participants will learn about the planning and development
framework and the roles of different urban planning tools and how they are applied in our neighbourhoods. The class will outline the differences between OurWinnipeg and the Complete Communities Direction Strategy, secondary plans, and zoning by-laws. As well,
participants will explore the range of development applications that are commonly associated with new development and re-development.
Refreshments will be provided and seating is limited.
