Hello Deans, Graduate Chairs and Awards Contacts,
I am writing to you today with a call for nominations for a new award called the Senior Women Academic
Administrators of Canada – Graduate Student Merit Award. This is an external award competition and the University of Manitoba is able to recommend 1 student for the 2017 competition.
At least three awards, each in the amount of $3,000, will be awarded annually across Canada to the woman graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the university
or general community while maintaining exemplary academic records.
Women who are currently registered in any Master’s or PhD program at the University of Manitoba are eligible to be nominated for the 2017 competition. Each Faculty/Unit may nominate
1 female student for this competition.
The criteria for this award are as follows:
1. Outstanding academic performance
2. Evidence of leadership, including but not limited to such things as:
· Executive positions in student organizations
· Participation on committees (student committees and university committees)
· Organization of special events, conferences, etc.
· Involvement in advocacy groups
· Involvement in volunteer organizations, within the campus setting and/or in the general community.
The award will be advertised in our Graduate Student Weekly email which goes to all currently registered graduate students and you are welcome to forward this call for applications to your
students, as well. Application requirements and procedures can be found on our Awards

Each faculty/unit may nominate one currently registered female Master’s OR PhD student for this award. The nominations are to be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies by December
16th, 2016 as per the instructions on the Awards
Database. Please ensure you let your students know of your own internal deadline for submission of their applications in order to meet the December 16th deadline for submission of nominations to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
