
Call for Nominations
Board of Directors of the Canadian Association for Leisure Studies /
Association canadienne d’études en loisir
CALS is an organization of Canadian and international scholars and practitioners who share an interest in recreation and leisure research and the delivery of leisure services.
Nominations are now open for the following CALS Board of Directors[1] positions
for a 3-year term (2026-2029):
President
Vice-President
Treasurer
Secretary
Graduate Student
(2 positions - representing two separate post-secondary institutions)
Director (up to 7 positions)
Nominations close Monday, April 13.
Please send your nominations to CALS Past President Dawn Trussell (dtrussell@brocku.ca), along with the nominee’s contact information. Nominees will be contacted to confirm
their candidacy and will be asked to provide a photo and brief bio of no more than 250 words (including affiliation, credentials, and any other relevant information).
All candidates must be members of
the Canadian Association for Leisure Studies. Membership in
CALS was provided to everyone who attended the Canadian Congress on Leisure Research (CCLR) in 2023. If you did not attend CCLR in 2023 but would like to be nominated to be a board member, you must
complete a CALS membership form. Membership forms can be arranged
through our treasurer, Dan
Henhawk (Daniel.Henhawk@umanitoba.ca).
A final list of candidates, with bios and photos, will be shared with all eligible voters using the voting platform Electionbuddy (www.electionbuddy.com).
Electronic voting begins on
FRIDAY, APRIL 17 and closes on FRIDAY, MAY 8.
All candidates will be notified of the results before CCLR. Any candidate who is not elected may request to see the voting count results. The 2026-2029 CALS Board will
be announced at CCLR and via the CALS list.
[1] As set out in the 2020 CALS By-laws: Board members in executive positions
(president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary) are limited to a total of two consecutive terms. Board members in non-executive positions may serve a third or fourth consecutive term provided they serve these additional terms in an executive role.
