This invitation is meant for you, either to attend yourself or to share with students you're in relationship with, who might be a good fit.
At the Students Leading Change conference, something I heard from student leaders over and over was that it's hard to get students engaged with the issues they're trying to tackle - it seems like students just don't care!
My troubling thought for them was: if you have to convince students to care, it's the wrong issue.
So... how do you figure out what the right issue is?
Workshop Description
"Listen to community" is advice that leaders, advocates, and change-makers are often given - but how do you actually do that and do it well?
This 2hr in-person workshop will explore what it means to advocate not just for your community, but
with your community, through the lens of community-engaged change work. Learners will gain theory and practical tools for a more effective approach based in community organizing principles. Expect a participatory session, with ample time spent in discussion
and group work so you can leave with a plan.
Topics will include: power and theories of change; defining advocacy; and a guide for planning an advocacy campaign.
