The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the Vice-Provost (Students) and the University of Manitoba Graduate Student’s Association (UMGSA) are pleased to offer $100.00 towards the completion of Part-Time Academic English Courses (PTAEC) offered by English Language Centre (ELC). These courses are delivered in-person and/or remotely.

Students can apply for $100.00 of funding by clicking the application link at the bottom of this message.

If you receive the funding, the $100.00 will be applied directly to the cost of one 30-hour Part-time Academic English Course offered in the Winter 2026 term.  Once approved for the funding, students will be responsible for payment of the additional $50.00 of the ELC course fees above and beyond the $100.00 funding.

Please note:

The funding is only available for new course registrations and is not available as a refund for students that have already registered and paid for a course.  Students already registered for a course are welcome to apply for the funding if interested in registering for an additional course in the Winter 2026 term.

•     One 3-hour class per week for 10 weeks

•     10-15 students per class provides a considerable amount of one-on-one interaction with your instructor and classmates

•     Synchronous and interactive (with modest amounts of asynchronous work)

•     Facilitated by highly experienced English for Academic Purposes instructors

•     Engaging: Meet other students and practice your English in a supportive environment!

Courses offered in Winter 2026:

1.    Oral English for Graduate Students

2.    Research Writing for Graduate Students

3.    Advanced Graduate Writing Workshop

4.    Effective Academic Writing

5.    Oral Presentations

6.    Conversation & Discussion
