Dear Students,
We are inviting
healthy volunteers to participate in a research study exploring the structure and function of extra-diaphragmatic respiratory muscles. This study is being conducted at the
Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg by researchers from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Manitoba.
Study Overview:
Purpose: To assess respiratory muscles function in healthy individuals and their relationship with physical
and respiratory function.
What’s Involved?
-
One-time, one-hour visit to our research facility.

Non-invasive tests (muscle ultrasound, lung function tests, fitness assessments, etc.).

No blood draws or invasive procedures.

Completion of three brief questionnaires on daily activities and quality of life.
Who Can Participate?
• Healthy adults
Who Cannot Participate?
• Current smokers
• History of acute or chronic cardiovascular or pulmonary disease
• Neuromuscular disease
• Cognitive disease that may impact test performance
• History of thoracic or abdominal surgery
• History of thoracic or abdominal trauma
• Thoracic or abdominal deformation
• Current pregnancy
• History of cancer
